Serena Williams recently revealed that she underwent surgery to remove a benign branchial cyst from her neck, describing it as being 'the size of a small grapefruit.' The retired tennis star shared on social media that she first noticed a lump on her neck in May and underwent an MRI exam. Initially advised that the cyst did not require removal, Williams opted to monitor it. However, as the lump continued to grow, further tests were conducted, including a biopsy that confirmed the absence of cancer.

Following her doctors' recommendation, Williams decided to proceed with a procedure to remove the cyst. She posted a video from her hospital bed, expressing gratitude for the successful outcome and emphasizing the importance of prioritizing health. While still in the recovery phase, she reassured her followers that she is on the mend and focused on her well-being.

Williams, who recently retired from professional tennis, made headlines with her unconventional approach to announcing her departure from the sport. Despite her retirement, she leaves behind a remarkable legacy, having secured 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by any woman in the professional era. Additionally, she clinched 14 doubles titles alongside her sister Venus and held the No. 1 ranking in the WTA for over 300 weeks. Her illustrious career also includes four Olympic gold medals.

Throughout her journey, Serena Williams has not only made a lasting impact on the world of tennis but has also inspired countless individuals with her resilience and determination. Her recent health scare serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing one's well-being, even in the face of challenges. As she continues to recover, Williams remains grateful for the positive outcome and underscores the significance of placing health above all else.
