A senior London Conservative has called for Boris Johnson to resign following the release of Sue Gray’s report.
Following Ms Gray’s damning report into the numerous gatherings held at No10 and across Whitehall, London Assembly member Andrew Boff, said it was time for the Prime Minister to step down as leader.
He claimed the ongoing police investigation into the gatherings could have serious consequences in the upcoming local elections in May.
Speaking to MyLondon, he said: “He is a great salesman to this country, with a proud record behind him. Now’s the time for him to hand over the reins to someone else.”
Ms Gray’s report redacts details from 12 of the 16 events which are now under investigation by the Met Police.
Ms Gray did conclude, however, the “excessive consumption of alcohol is not appropriate” and criticised the “failures of leadership” across No10 and the Cabinet Office.
The Met confirmed it has been given over 300 pictures and 500 pages relating to the incidents under investigation from Ms Gray’s findings.
When asked to respond to Mr Boff’s comments, Susan Hall, Leader of the London Conservatives told the Standard: “Andrew Boff’s comments are made on his own behalf.
“We have differing views and he does not speak for the London Conservatives. At the moment, everything is too up in the air to comment.
“We need to wait for the police to conclude their investigation.”
Mr Boff joins Ruth Davidson, former leader of the Scottish Tories, former Prime Minister Theresa May and MPs Andrew Mitchell and Aaron Bell in voicing their criticism of Mr Johnson.
While some elements of the report have been redacted, the Prime Minister is reported to have told MPs at a meeting of the 1922 Committee on Monday, that he would publish the findings in full when the police investigation has been concluded.
