The senior garda who played a key role in taking down Kinahan mobster Fat Freddie Thompson has been promoted to an Assistant Commissioner.
Paul Cleary, who has served for 29 years, has been appointed to the rank along with two others.
Garda Chief Drew Harris previously led the praise for Cleary’s “world class” investigation into monster Thompson for the murder of Daithi Douglas in Dublin’s south inner city in July, 2016.
