Sen. James Lankford, a pro-life advocate, confirmed that Kennedy's stance on abortion will be a significant topic during the hearing. Lankford highlighted the Trump administration's efforts in promoting pro-life policies through HHS, such as conscience protections for abortion and actions against Planned Parenthood.
Other Senate Republicans, including Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Sen. Roger Wicker, also expressed concerns about Kennedy's abortion views and indicated that they would seek clarification during the hearing.
Despite reservations from some Republicans, there is an expectation that Kennedy will align with the administration's policies. Sen. Ted Budd emphasized the anticipation that Trump's nominees, including Kennedy, would uphold pro-life values.
Transition spokesperson Katie Miller affirmed Kennedy's commitment to supporting President Trump's agenda and policies. However, conservative and pro-life groups have voiced apprehensions about Kennedy's nomination, citing a departure from the administration's pro-life stance.
Former Vice President Mike Pence and Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro Life America, expressed concerns about Kennedy's nomination but expressed confidence in the Trump administration's commitment to pro-life principles.
