A federal ban on most hemp-derived THC products would be delayed by roughly one month under a stopgap spending bill the Senate passed early Saturday, after senators voted 61-32 to set aside an amendment that would have kept the original timeline intact.
The ban is scheduled to take effect Nov. 12. The continuing resolution moves that date to Dec. 11, the same day the bill's federal funding extension expires. The amendment, offered by Sen. Ted Budd of North Carolina along with Sen. Pete Ricketts of Nebraska and roughly a dozen other cosponsors from both parties, was killed by a motion to table from Sen. Amy Klobuchar. The Senate then passed the underlying funding bill 90-6.
