Sen. Roger Marshall promoted Trump’s $5,000 dividend on social media, then hedged on it days later at a debate: ‘Not the first time I’ve disagreed’

Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas told voters at a Kansas State Fair debate that he was not ready to back President Donald Trump’s $5,000 dividend plan, reports The Hill. A moderator asked Marshall and Democratic challenger Adam Hamilton whether they supported the dividends and pointed to a reported $1.2 trillion price tag amid rising national debt.

Marshall said he would gather all the information and then decide. “But look, this is not the first time I’ve disagreed with President Trump, and it probably won’t be the last,” he said. He said he would instead stay focused on Kansas jobs, Kansas agriculture, and the state’s cattle industry.
