Sen. Graham Accuses Democrats Of Trying To Destroy Conservative Justices

Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, has accused Democrats of attempting to undermine conservative Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas through a bill that was blocked by Senate Republicans in June. The bill aimed to modify financial disclosure requirements, ethical standards, and recusal requirements for Supreme Court justices.

The proposed legislation, known as the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency (SCERT) Act, would have expanded the circumstances under which a Justice or judge must be disqualified and required the establishment of procedural rules for prohibiting certain filings that could lead to disqualification.

Graham criticized the bill as a constitutional overreach, arguing that it sought to interfere with the functioning of the Supreme Court and target conservative justices. He emphasized that the Supreme Court should focus on interpreting the Constitution rather than making political decisions.

Senator Graham, along with fellow GOP members such as Senators John Kennedy and Mike Lee, opposed the measure. President Biden has also voiced concerns about the current state of the Supreme Court, suggesting that it is not in alignment with public expectations.

In response to Democratic criticisms of the Supreme Court, Graham asserted that most Americans do not feel safer under President Biden's administration compared to the previous administration. He highlighted issues such as the border crisis, conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and what he perceives as a lack of law enforcement under the current administration.

Graham dismissed claims that Americans are safer under President Biden, calling such assertions 'silly' and 'dangerously wrong.' He criticized Biden's handling of various domestic and international challenges, characterizing his approach as 'reckless.'
