Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., speaks during a hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, June 8, 2023. Sanders and a robust group of Democratic senators say they're done “asking nicely" for Israe

Amidst internal discord within the Democratic Party regarding their support for President Biden, Senator Bernie Sanders has emerged as an unexpected advocate for Biden's continued candidacy. In an interview with the New Yorker magazine, Sanders expressed his belief in Biden's strong record, asserting it to be the most robust among modern American presidents.

While acknowledging his past criticisms of the Biden campaign, particularly in the aftermath of the widely criticized debate performance, Sanders emphasized the importance of highlighting Biden's accomplishments. He stressed the necessity for Biden to address pressing issues affecting everyday Americans, such as economic struggles faced by a majority living paycheck to paycheck.

Sanders, known for his progressive stance on various issues, including his opposition to continued aid to Israel, urged Biden to shift focus towards solutions for critical concerns like climate change and reproductive rights, which are significant worries for young voters.

Responding to queries about Biden's ability to serve another term amid concerns about his mental acuity, Sanders expressed general apprehension, noting the importance of scrutinizing all aspects of a candidate's capabilities. He emphasized the need for political discourse to prioritize issues impacting the working class, advocating for policies like raising the minimum wage, supporting unionization efforts, addressing climate change, safeguarding reproductive rights, and expanding affordable housing.
