Selfless mum is a real gem always helping those in need in Lanarkshire community

A “gem of a woman” from Netherton who helps countless others in the community is the recipient of our Say it with Flowers award this week.

Tracy Mcarthur was nominated by not one, but two different people recently. Leighan Gilchrist was the second person to alert us to Tracy’s selfless work in the community following an earlier nomination.

And we were really happy to show their appreciation with our floral award courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.

Tracy has a Facebook page; Netherton Old and New, where she issues appeals for food and household items to help out hose who are in desperate need or struggling to afford things.

Leighan said: “At Christmas she put out a toy appeal on Facebook for families that were struggling and ensured all those kids got a present.

"She’s also providing food to people who are struggling and it’s all done confidentially. They send her a private messages and she helps out. She collects food donations and makes up bags and then walks over to hand it over.

"The other night she put a post up about two families who hadn’t eaten for days and straight away she had donations and was able to help. She doesn’t drive but just helps everyone.

"She’s managed to get beds and cots and other items for people. Anything you need, she puts up a post to see if you can source it.

“I just thought it would be nice for her to get something back. Honestly, she is just a gem of a woman and an amazing person.”

Leeann Nicholson had also nominated Tracy, she told us: “This woman is amazing and does so much for the community of Netherton. She has helped so many families out with clothes and toys, and even food”.

After receiving the flowers from the Wishaw Press, Tracy posted on the Netherton Old and New page: “I’m absolutely speechless and overwhelmed and almost had a tear in my eye thank you so very much.”

“Flowers are absolutely gorgeous from Pixies Petals,” she added.
