Latina super star Selena Gomez is returning to Spanish-language music with a little help from fellow Mexican American star Becky G. and husband Benny Blanco. The pair joined the producer on the cumbia 'Te Olvido (La La),' released Friday alongside a colorful music video that celebrates Mexican American culture in Los Angeles through its setting, characters and visual references.
The song is the latest preview of Blanco's upcoming album Hermoso, due Aug. 14, a project he has described as a tribute to the Spanish-language music that shaped him growing up.
"I grew up in an area with a large Latin population, so that music has surrounded me since I was a child," Blanco told El País while discussing the inspiration behind Hermoso. "You'd get in the car and Jeanette would be playing; in another car, cumbia would be on." He added that he was always fascinated by "the drums and how the rhythms interacted with each other," an influence that ultimately became the foundation for the album.
Those influences are immediately apparent in 'Te Olvido (La La).' Rather than following the urbano or Latin pop route that has defined many crossover collaborations, Blanco builds the song around cumbia, pairing Gomez and Becky G over a rhythm that has become a staple of celebrations across Mexico and among Mexican American communities in the United States.

The accompanying video expands on that vision.
Shot in Los Callejones (Santee Alley) in downtown Los Angeles, the clip follows Gomez, Becky G and Blanco through one of the city's best-known Latino commercial districts. Street vendors, neighborhood storefronts, dancers, images of la virgen de Guadalupe, and classic lowriders fill the screen, while actor Danny Trejo makes a cameo that further roots the project in Chicano culture.

For Gomez, the single marks her most significant return to singing in Spanish since 2021's Grammy-nominated EP Revelación, which featured the hits 'De Una Vez,' 'Baila Conmigo' with Rauw Alejandro and 'Selfish Love' with DJ Snake. Since then, she has released Spanish-language collaborations, including 'Ojos Tristes' with Blanco on their 2025 joint album I Said I Love You First, but 'Te Olvido (La La)' is her first new standalone Spanish-language single in years.
The release also arrives after the Oscar nominated movie Emilia Pérez sparked criticism among some Mexican and Latino audiences over the film's portrayal of Mexico and Gomez's Spanish. Now she is back in a project that centers on celebrating her heritage through music instead of cinema.
Las Gómez
The collaboration brings together two artists whose careers have followed different paths while sharing similar roots and even share the same last name. Selena Gomez, whose father is of Mexican descent, has often spoken about reconnecting with that side of her identity through music. Becky G (Rebecca Gomez,) meanwhile, has spent the past several years moving between pop, música mexicana and Latin music, while currently serving as a special guest on select dates of Karol G's "Viajando por el Mundo TropiTour" across North America.
Speaking with Colombia's Caracol Radio, Blanco said making Hermoso was deeply personal because "Latin music has always been in my soul since I was very young." He added that he felt "blessed" to collaborate with so many artists across the Spanish-speaking world for the project.
That approach is reflected throughout the album's guest list, which includes artists from different corners of Latin music, but 'Te Olvido (La La)' stands apart by placing Mexican American identity at the center of both its sound and visuals.
Instead of relying on elaborate sets or special effects, the video lets Los Angeles tell the story. Gomez and Becky G dance through Los Callejones, smile alongside local vendors, ride with lowriders and share the screen with Trejo, creating a release that feels less like a crossover experiment and more like a celebration of the neighborhoods and traditions that inspired Blanco's first Spanish-language album.
Hermoso will be Blanco's fourth studio album. In 2018, he released his debut project, Friends Keep Secrets. In 2021, he dropped Friends Keep Secrets 2, which expanded on his first album. In 2025, the producer, along with singer and wife Selena Gomez, released a joint project titled I Said I Love You First. The first single was "Joven y Salvaje" (young and wild), a song he produced to accompany the vocals of Spanish rapper Bb trickz.
