Selena Gomez opens up about her inability to carry children; shares excitement over possibilities of surrogacy or adoption

Selena Gomez is sharing some rather personal details. The actress and singer has revealed that her health struggles make it difficult for her to carry her children in the future.

In a candid interview with Vanity Fair, Selena shared her 'grief' over coming to terms with the reality that will may not be able to carry a child.

“I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children,” Gomez said and added, “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

Gomez, who was diagnosed with lupus in 2013 and later underwent a kidney transplant, did not elaborate on whether her autoimmune disease or other health conditions were the primary reasons for the same. However, she discussed alternative pathways to motherhood, including surrogacy and adoption.

“I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone,” she said. “[But] I’m in a much better place with that now. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption. Those are both huge possibilities for me.”

Gomez expressed gratitude for the options available for those who, like her, long to become parents. “I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll be a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”The pop star has previously spoken about her desire to adopt. In an earlier interview with 'Time' magazine, Gomez mentioned that she had decided years ago to adopt a child by the age of 35, even if she were still single. However, those plans may have evolved, as she is currently in a relationship with producer Benny Blanco, who has also expressed his desire to start a family with her.

Beyond her personal life, Gomez has been thriving professionally. 'Bloomberg' last week estimated that she has reached billionaire status due to the success of her beauty brand, Rare Beauty. Her hit Hulu show 'Only Murders in the Building' has been renewed for a fifth season, while her latest film, 'Emilia Pérez', a Spanish-language musical crime comedy, has been making waves on the festival circuit, earning rave reviews and accolades.
