'Seen everything' - Josh Vela reflects on Bolton Wanderers times ahead of reunion with Fleetwood

Josh Vela admits he 'loved' his time at Bolton Wanderers as he reflected on his spell at the club before his reunion with new side Fleetwood Town.

Vela came through the youth team ranks at the Whites and went on to make more than 180 appearances for the club in the Premier League, Championship and League One. He departed in the summer of 2019 as the club went through financial turmoil off the pitch.

After spells with Hibernian and coming up against his old side last season with Shrewsbury Town, Vela signed for the Cod Army over the summer. The 28-year-old has reflected on his time at his former club ahead of their latest reunion and admits he still looks out for their results and that it is good to see them back on a positive trajectory, but he is now fully focused on Fleetwood.

He said: “I’ve seen everything at Bolton. I was eight-year-old when I first joined to the Club, and I worked my way to the first team. I went from six months not getting paid, to then gaining promotion from League One, so I’ve had some really good times; and obviously not so good times.

“It was a challenging time obviously not just for the players but the staff and the people who work at the club. It was 24 hours away from going bust and not having a Bolton Wanderers anymore.

“It’s a club that’s close to my heart and I look back on my times there with good memories. I made some great friends that are still friends now so I’m looking forward to coming against them this weekend.

“Like I said they’re on the way back up now, I think. I loved my time at Bolton, I nearly made 200 appearances for them, and I always look out for their results; but not this weekend as I’ll be looking out for a Fleetwood’s results.”
