See Whigfield spur on South Shields singalong with Saturday Night at Dance Revival festival

Whigfield had a capacity crowd singing along to one of their biggest hits this afternoon, as they took to the stage in Bents Park for an epic Dance Revival festival.

The third instalment of South Tyneside's free concerts boasted a number of fantastic dance acts, with D:Ream and Phats & Small also performing at the all-day family fun event.

Queues began to form early this morning for the show itself, with eager and anticipating fans all excited to make the most of the event in its entirety.

Kelly Lorenna kicked off the show followed by D:Ream and Phats & Small, before headliner Whigfield whipped the South Shields crowd into a frenzy with her legendary track Saturday Night. Echoes could be heard up and down the coastline, as the singer - whose real name is Sannie Charlotte Carlson - began the hit number.

The crowd were eating out of the Dane's hands, hooked on every line as she raised the energy whilst dancing along herself. Released on the 5th of September 1994, Whigfield's big hit went straight to number one in the charts - dethroning Wet Wet Wet's 15 week chart-topper "Love Is All Around".

By October 2015, it had sold a grand total of 1.18 million copies in the UK alone. It was also successful on a global scale, reaching number one in Germany, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland - and becoming a top-10 hit in Austria, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.

Speaking to Chronicle Live before the show, Whigfield said: "I live to do this. I have so much fun doing it, it's not even a job when you think. Going to the studio, playing live...

"Especially everything what we've gone through with Covid and what not, it's been a nightmare. So for us to actually get out and to be able to do this - it's amazing."

Today's event was the third instalment of the free South Tyneside concerts - with Ella Henderson & The South both taking to the very same stage last weekend. Next Sunday will play host to Shalamar and Eurovision favourites The Fizz, in a day filled to the brim with music and fun for everyone.
