Big Tech giants make up a significant portion of the highest-paying employers in the U.S. The median salary at social media giant Meta (META) -) was $296,000 for 2022, making it the second highest-paying employer in the country; Google parent Alphabet (GOOG) -) took third place, clocking in at around $280,000, beating out ETSY (ETSY) -), which came in at $248,000.
And even as tech companies across the board have been working to trim their staffs, conducting mass layoffs, annual compensation has been shooting up lately, according to The Street's Brian O'Connell.

While Google base salary ranges are listed in their job postings, bonus and equity details were recently revealed by Insider. There is an internal spreadsheet at Google that tracks total employee compensation. Insider got a look at this spreadsheet, which included data submitted (voluntarily) by more than 12,000 U.S. employees for 2022.
The data features compensation only for full-time U.S. employees.
Insider found that employees who had been at the company longer and at higher levels had higher salaries, with the highest-paid employee being a software engineer who reported a base salary of $718,000, compared to the $100,000 to $375,000 range most software engineers reported.
"We provide top-of-market compensation to our workforce, across salary, equity, leave and a suite of benefits," Tamani Jayasinghe, a Google spokesperson, told Insider.
In a graph showing the highest base salaries each role was reported to make, Insider found that the next-highest base salary belonged to a software engineering manager, who recorded $400,000 in base pay. The highest-paid sales strategist earned $320,000 in base pay, with the highest-paid program manager taking home $300,000.

In terms of bonuses, software engineers reported the highest amount in bonuses, with the highest recorded bonus at $605,000. A Google data scientist earned $326,000 in bonuses for 2022 and a program manager took home $125,000 in bonuses.
And in terms of equity -- which is granted to employees in the form of restricted stock units -- software engineers once against reigned supreme, with the highest equity recorded for 2022 amounting to $1.5 million. The highest paid software engineering manager earned $600,000 in equity and Google's highest-paid research scientist likewise was granted $600,000 in equity.
