STORM Babet is to bring life-threatening weather to Scotland this week with the Met Office issuing several weather warnings.
The storm is set to bring a month’s worth of rain within 48 hours across parts of the country with areas of Angus expected to see two months of rain at the same time.
The Met Office has already issued a “rare” red weather warning and has said it is likely there will be “a risk to life”.
Police Scotland meanwhile have asked drivers to only travel if it is absolutely necessary.
Where and when are the weather warnings?
The red alert comes into force from 6pm on Thursday and covers an area along the coast just north of Dundee up to Stonehaven. It will last until midday on Friday.
Elsewhere, a yellow warning for rain comes into force from 6am on Thursday, covering all of lowland Scotland, all of the north east and much of the Highlands. It ends at 6am on Saturday.
Meanwhile, an amber warning for rain comes into force at 6am on Thursday over Perthshire, Angus and Aberdeenshire until 6pm on Friday.
Another amber warning covering an area of northern Scotland is in place from 6pm on Thursday until 9am on Friday.
A yellow warning for wind will also come into force from 3am on Thursday, covering most of Fife and all of the mainland north of St Andrews. It ends at midday on Friday.
Another amber warning for wind comes into force at 10am on Thursday across the north east coast which will end at 6pm on Thursday.
The warnings follow a period of extreme rainfall earlier in the month in which parts of Scotland saw up to three weeks’ worth of rain fall over a short period of time, leading to businesses and homes being cut off due to landslips.
