Secret to a more productive workday has nothing to do with work

Why are we all so tired? From corporate burnout to balancing professional goals with a busy home life, there's millions of answers, but not many solutions.

Until now.

In TheStreet's new video series, 'Why Are We All So Tired?,' we talked to business leaders as well as average Americans about their biggest challenges and the tactics and techniques they use to live happier and more fulfilled professional lives. It turns out, you actually can be productive at work without sacrificing your home life.

For our premiere episode, we took to the streets of New York City and found out for many people, how you start the day has a lot to do with how you feel at the end of it.

We sat down with MNTN CEO Mark Douglas for his secret to navigating the ins and outs of his busy workday. It turns out that balance may have a lot more to do with when you start your workday.

So maybe checking your email first thing in the morning isn't so smart after all.

TheStreet's 'Why Are We All So Tired?' is sponsored by 5-hour Energy's" Summer of No FOMO."

TRANSCRIPT:

MARK DOUGLAS: I actually live on the East coast, but work West Coast hours, so I actually get to enjoy my morning before I start my Workday so that when I do start my workday, I'm actually awake. I've gotten out, I've ridden my bike.

I live in Miami. So I've maybe gone down to South Beach, literally gone to the beach and things like that. And so then when I get to the workday, it's not like a cup of coffee. And I'm on the phone.

It's like, you know, I went and hit golf. I went and biked. I like lived my life before I jump into the work day. And then, you know, it's kind of, you know, pretty organized from there. So it's that combination of like, get up, enjoy life and then enjoy work as opposed to being forced to work the second I get up.
