Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe revealed that neither the Secret Service sniper team nor Donald Trump's security detail were aware of Thomas Matthew Crooks' presence on a roof with a rifle until he nearly killed Trump.
Rowe stated that based on current information, both the counter sniper teams and the security detail were unaware of the armed man on the AGR roof.
There has been confusion regarding when local law enforcement informed the Secret Service about Crooks, who was initially spotted over 90 minutes before the shooting.
Rowe clarified that the personnel involved were not informed about the assailant having a firearm until they heard gunshots.
Prior to the gunshots, they were operating under the assumption that local law enforcement was dealing with a suspicious individual.
