House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., expressed his satisfaction on Tuesday following the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle in the aftermath of the recent Trump assassination attempt.
Less than a week ago, Johnson had indicated his readiness to urge President Biden to dismiss Cheatle, who had been facing increasing pressure from both Republican and Democratic lawmakers to step down.
Johnson stated on Tuesday, 'I'm happy to see that she has heeded the call of both Republicans and Democrats. Now we have to pick up the pieces. We have to rebuild the American people's faith and trust in the Secret Service agency.'
Regarding Cheatle's resignation, Johnson remarked that she 'did the right thing.'
