Second Snoopy statue vandalised just two days after the Dog's Trust trail opens

A second snoopy statue will need to be removed after being discovered broken just two days into the project. Park-goers discovered the broken sculpture on the morning of Sunday, April 10, in Victoria Park in Cardiff. However residents cannot figure out how the incident happened as the park is locked at night.

The giant snoopy is part of A Dog's Trail project featuring 40 large Snoopys, and 75 smaller ones scattered across south Wales. The project went live on Friday, April 8, however this is the second large sculpture to be damaged, with the first being removed on the morning of Saturday, April 9 from Caerphilly Castle due to vandalism.

The Victoria Park snoopy was designed by Layla Holzer. She designed a summery floral scene featuring big bold flowers with dog characters running, playing, and hiding between them, as well as scattered motifs of dog bones, balls, twigs and stars. She used a very soft pale lilac base with imagery in deep blue, neon pink, yellow and a lighter pink to create a design that aimed to capture the playful, cheeky characters of dogs.

On the launching of the trail, Rebecca Staden, Project Manager, said: “We are so excited to finally unleash our Snoopy sculptures across South Wales and can’t wait to see everyone out there exploring the city over the next eight weeks. A Dog’s Trail will offer everyone, two and four-legged, a fabulous day out and will get people exploring parts of south Wales they may not have visited before, while helping to support the care we provide to thousands of dogs across south Wales each year.”

It is raising money for Dogs Trust and trail maps are available from various outlet across the trail route including from Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Cardiff and the A Dog’s Trail Shop in Mermaid Quay, which is open for the duration of the trail selling everything from Snoopy plush toys and tote bags to dog collar charms and doggie accessories.

Once the trail has ended, there will be a final chance to see all 40 large Snoopy sculptures together at a farewell event at Cardiff City Hall Lawn in Cardiff from June 16 -19. Get all the latest news from Cardiff straight to your inbox with our free Cardiff newsletter.
