Second man charged over woman's abduction and ransom

A second man has been charged over the abduction of a woman who was later threatened with the release of images of her subsequent sexual assault.

The 36-year-old woman was forced into a Toyota Camry by a group of men at Epping, in Sydney's northwest, in April.

She was taken to hospital for treatment after telling police she had been drugged and sexually assaulted after the kidnapping.

Detectives found her clothing, as well as drugs and bindings believed to have been used in the sexual assault, in the bin of an Eastwood home, not far from the reported abduction site.

Following the extradition of an alleged ringleader from Victoria in June, a second man was arrested on Monday at Sydney's Silverwater jail.

Benjamin Matthew Kennedy, 37, did not apply for bail when he appeared at Parramatta Local Court, where he is due to return in August.

He faces a string of charges, including aggravated sexual assault in company and deprivation of liberty, detention in company with intent to ransom and using an intoxicating substance to commit an indictable offence.

Yanyu Mu was previously extradited from Victoria to face similar charges.

He is also charged with knowingly directing the activities of a criminal group.

Both men are accused of recording and threatening to distribute images of the sexual assault, which police say led to an attempted $300,000 ransom being sought.
