A second man has been charged over an alleged arson attack at a former synagogue in east London.
Damage was caused to gates and a lock at the building on Nelson Street in Whitechapel just after 5am last Tuesday.
Dominique Charles-Turner, 31, from Leyton, was arrested on Tuesday and has now been charged with arson with intent to endanger life, the Metropolitan Police said.
He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later on Thursday.
The former synagogue is in the process of being bought by a Muslim community group with plans to convert it to a mosque and community centre.
A spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service said: “We have decided to charge Dominic Charles Turner with arson with intent to endanger life following an attack at a former synagogue in Nelson Street, Tower Hamlets, on May 5 2026.
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.
“We have worked closely with the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command as it carried out its investigation.
“We remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.
“It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
Moses Edwards 45, from Wanstead, has already been charged with arson with intent to endanger life and is next due to appear in court at the Old Bailey on June 5.
A 52-year-old woman who was also arrested in connection with the blaze was bailed until August.
