According to Peel Regional Police, Devaunte Thompson, 26, of Caledon, was arrested in Toronto on 16 July and charged with second-degree murder. Police said he is being held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice.

The victim, Gurvinder Nath, 24, of Brampton, was working as a food delivery driver when he was attacked in the area of Britannia Road and Creditview Road at about 2.10am on 9 July 2023.

Police said Nath was assaulted and robbed of his vehicle before the suspects fled the scene in the stolen car. He was taken to a trauma centre with serious injuries and later died.

Nath was originally from Punjab's Nawanshahr district and was studying business at Loyalist College in Toronto at the time of the attack.

Investigators had previously arrested Jazaine Kerr, 23, of Mississauga, on 15 February 2024. He was charged with second-degree murder and possession of a prohibited firearm.

According to police, investigators later identified Thompson as a second suspect, secured a Canada-wide warrant, and located and arrested him in Toronto.
