Missouri quarterback Brady Cook led the Tigers to a huge 30–27 upset over then-No. 15 Kansas State on Saturday.
Based on that sentence, observers might expect that Missouri’s home crowd absolutely loves the starting quarterback. However, the crowd actually booed Cook during the team’s introductions.
It’s not as if Cook played poorly in the Tigers’ first two games of the season, recording 376 total passing yards and three touchdown passes without an interception in wins over South Dakota and Middle Tennessee. But fans presumably are smitten with the idea of prized recruit Sam Horn, a redshirt freshman, under center for Mizzou.
After the win at Faurot Field in Columbia, Tigers coach Eli Drinkwitz began his postgame press conference by addressing his displeasure with the reception for Cook.
“I’m going to say it. It pissed me off when we booed our starting quarterback to start the game,” Drinkwitz said. “He went out and played his butt off for this university and this team. They need to get behind him. You get behind the young man. You want to boo me? Fine. You don’t boo the starting quarterback. It’s bullcrap.”
