Sebastien Haller has successful undergone a second operation as he continues his battle with testicular cancer.
The Borussia Dortmund star has been undergoing treatment since the summer, when the issue first emerged. The former West Ham forward felt unwell during the German side's pre-season tour of Switzerland, with tests revealing a malignant tumour. Haller underwent chemotherapy and then made it clear he would have an operation.
He has since posted pictures on social media of him after the operation and said: "Another step has been taken. Operation two went well. I'm looking forward to what's coming."
Haller has continued to receive huge support from the footballing community, starting with his club, who said in the summer: "Sebastien Haller will be absent from Borussia Dortmund for several months. The histological findings revealed a malignant testicular tumour. Haller therefore has to undergo chemotherapy treatment."
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has previously said he hopes to have Haller back for the second half of the season, but maintained the Ivorian would be given "all the time he needs to make a full recovery".
Haller spoke impressively and openly about his struggle last month as he tried to keep a strong perspective. The Dortmund star claimed he had a "spoiled" upbringing and was now facing a difficult challenge. He told UEFA : "With all the experiences I’ve had, and all the people that I know and who are around me on a daily basis, I realise that I’m very lucky to have the life that I have.
"One of the first things I told myself was: 'OK, it’s happened to me. I am going to do everything to be good mentally and physically'. I was a spoiled child; I never had any worries. This is the first big ordeal I had to face. Some people start their lives like that. I was lucky that it came later in my life so I can’t complain."
Haller arrived back in Germany in the summer with high expectations following his move from Ajax. It was in the Bundesliga with Frankfurt that he first made his name, which prompted the Hammers to make a move in 2019. His stint in London didn't go to plan and he headed to Ajax 18 months later.
The Ivorian excelled with the Dutch giants, breaking Champions League goal records, as he scored 34 times last term - a career high. Dortmund moved to sign Haller after they lost Erling Haaland to Manchester City but have been unable to call on the forward as of yet.
