A search is underway for a missing nine-year-old girl who has not been seen by her family since last night.

Summer Roche was reported missing by her mother after last being seen in Florey at 7.30pm on Wednesday.

Summer is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 140 centimetres tall, with long dark-brown hair with a purple tint.

She has a piercing in her left nostril and is of slim build.

Summer was last seen wearing a long-sleeved black Adidas-branded shirt, camouflage Adidas tracksuit pants and white Nike shoes.

Both ACT police and Summer's family have expressed concerns for Summer's mental health and welfare.

According to police, Summer knows how to utilise the Belconnen bus route and knows her way around Belconnen Mall and Florey shops.

ACT Policing are requesting the public's assistance in locating Summer.

Anyone who may have any information that could assist police in locating Summer is urged to contact ACT Policing Operations on 131 444.
