A Dubliner has launched an online search to find the owner of a sentimental Christmas tree decoration he found while shredding trees at a recycling centre.
David Douglas was shredding Christmas trees in Blackrock Park on Tuesday when he found an angel decoration on one of the branches.
The decoration has the name "Tricia" and year "1983" inscribed on it, suggesting it may have high sentimental value to someone.
David wants to reunite the decoration with its rightful owner.
He told Dublin Live: "We take Christmas trees every year for recycling for the Council and people come from all over, mostly Dublin but it could be from Wicklow as well because local GAA clubs go around collecting trees for charity and they get a few pound for their clubs.
"There's recycling centres all over Dun Laoghaire but where I work is between Blackrock and the West Pier."
He said generic Christmas decorations are regularly left behind on trees but he noticed this one was different.
"Usually there's ordinary decorations left behind on trees so we pull them out and gather them up, but this one was about to go into the machine and get shredded but I caught a glimpse of it in time and stopped the machine," he said.
"I pulled it out and saw it was an angel. So I stuck it in my pocket because we were still working away.
"I took it out later and saw there was a name and a date on it, so I thought it's probably sentimental for someone and if not, they'd want it back anyway.
"I put it up on my own page and people told me to share it on other pages."
David said that although most of the trees they shred come from the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown area, some vans arrive with trees from all over Dublin and Wicklow.
He said: "It could be from anywhere from Bray to the Northside."
