Search for world-famous Loch Ness Monster announced to celebrate anniversary

A SEARCH for the Loch Ness Monster has been announced to celebrate the anniversary of the first organised water watch team.

The Quest will mark the 90th anniversary of the first organised water watch for Nessie, known as Watchers Of The Monster, as volunteers encourage people to come and join the search to uncover Loch Ness’s mysteries from May 30 to June 2.

The event is hosted by the recently revamped Loch Ness Centre as part of the celebration of Edward Mountain’s first expedition of the famous waters in search of the beast.

Alongside the huge search, there will be a screening of Loch Ness: They Created A Monster, a documentary that explores the monster-hunting frenzy in the 1970s and 80s, with director John MacLaverty hosting a Q&A afterwards.

Eyewitness Richard White will also be in attendance along with Roland Watson, a renowned Loch Ness writer, as they tell gripping stories about their experiences with the monster.

There is also the chance to explore the depths of the loch with Deepscan captain Alistair Matheson, the skipper for the Loch Ness Project.

The Loch Ness Centre reopened its doors last year after a £1.5m upgrade.

Visitors are guided by the voice of actor David Tennant as the state-of-the-art tourist attraction blends hi-tech multimedia, myths, and science to put a new spin on an ancient legend.

Loch Ness has drawn visitors from all over the world and those who make the journey are encouraged to continue the Nessie search themselves with hundreds of other monster hunters.
