A major air, land and sea search is over after police found the body of a missing man on Saturday morning.
Police said 38-year-old Luke Woods went to Mudjimba Beach at lunchtime on Wednesday.
His car and belongings were found on the sand near access point 132 Thursday afternoon, about 24 hours after he was last seen.
Police Inspector Jon Lewis said that was when the alarm was raised.
He said loved ones searched the area but when they could not find Mr Woods, they called police for help.
Inspector Lewis said the focus of the search also included land areas.
"We're looking at the land on both sides of the beach road — we've got to cover off on all of those."
State Emergency Service (SES) crews, police and surf life saving volunteers had searched the ocean and the beach up to 600 metres north of where Mr Woods' gear was found.
Police said a report would be prepared for the coroner.
