The body of missing fisherman Jed Farraway has been found almost 10 hours after he was flung into the water when his boat crashed at Port Alma in Central Queensland.

Police believed Mr Farraway was returning from a fishing trip with three friends at about 7.30am Sunday when their boat struck a marker buoy.

The three other men were rescued, including a man in his 20s who was airlifted to the Rockhampton hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Another man in his 20s suffered leg and back injuries, while a man in his 30s had chest and leg injuries, and cuts to his face.

Police confirmed at 7pm that Mr Farraway's body had been found. (Facebook)

Police confirmed tonight that the body of a missing 28-year-old man was found at around 5pm.

Senior Constable Grant Kerlin said half a dozen family and friends had joined water police, the coast guard, volunteer marine rescue, a swift water team and a helicopter in the search, which initially focused on the mouth of the Fitzroy River.

He said it took a number hours for police to arrive.

Numerous friends posted on social media to ask locals to join the search for Mr Farraway. (Facebook)

"It's a couple of hours from the major centres, but we did have the Coast Guard and VMR units on scene as soon as we could," he said.

Police said little was known about how the boat came to hit the buoy.

Mr Farraway was known for his fishing expeditions along Australia's Eastern coastline, posting his best catches online to more than 11,000 Instagram followers.

A number of friends took to social media to encourage locals to join the search.

"Please bring this legend home," Reece Hateley wrote.

Another friend, Jay Cole, had been praying for a good outcome.

"He is mad as a cut snake and if there's one bloke that can get through it, it will be him," Mr Cole said.

"Get this mad dog back for us."
