Sean Payton’s Four-Word Message When Asked About Aaron Rodgers Ripping Him

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Broncos head coach Sean Payton got into some drama over the weekend after Payton commented on former Denver coach and now Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

Payton said Hackett’s time with the Broncos last season “might have been one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL,” via USA Today. Rodgers quickly shot back a response to Payton, calling his comments “inappropriate” for putting down another coach at his level. The quarterback added that Payton must feel “insecure” to tear another coach down.

Payton was asked about Rodgers’s response on Monday morning, to which he gave a very brief comment.

“No,” Payton said via NFL Network’s James Palmer. “We’re past it.”

It’s unclear from Payton’s four-word message if this means they reconciled after their comments.

Hackett was fired before the end of his first season with the Broncos last year. The Jets then hired Hackett as their offensive coordinator. Payton returned to the NFL to coach Denver this year following a two-year retirement stint.
