Sean Payton will coach his first regular season game since the 2021 season on Sunday and will also make his Broncos debut against one of the best offensive players in the NFL: Josh Jacobs. Ahead of the matchup, Payton didn’t try to hide his admiration for the talented Raiders tailback when asked about him.
“We wouldn’t tailor our plan — our plan defensively is: Here are the key players,” Payton said, per NFL.com. “He certainly is one of the more dominant running backs in the NFL, so that’s how we’ll approach the game.”
Jacobs led the NFL in rushing last season when he tallied 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. And he has made it a habit of cutting up Denver’s defense, rushing for 721 yards on 154 carries with nine touchdowns in his seven games against the team. Las Vegas is 7–0 against Denver when Jacobs suits up.
The divisional matchup is set for Sunday at 4:25 ET on CBS.
