Sean O'Malley is not going anywhere.
The rising UFC star and title bantamweight contender has signed a new eight-fight contract with the Las Vegas-based promotion. UFC president Dana White announced the news Saturday.
O’Malley (16-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) is one of the biggest young names in the UFC today. The 28-year-old entered the UFC almost five years ago after he earned a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series. Since hten, O’Malley has established himself as a top contender at 135 pounds.
He’s said he’s happy with the deal he signed and the way his career is panning out.
“I got a very gracious contract that I’m proud of,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “I got a number that I’m very happy with. I truly don’t think any manager that I had could have went in there and got me what I got.
“That also helps with the relationship built with the UFC. I feel like I have earned this contract. I feel like I have earned the amount that I’m getting paid.”
“Suga” is coming off a close split decision win over former champion Petr Yan at UFC 280 this past October. The bout earned Fight of the Night honors.
On top of the win over Yan, O’Malley has defeated other notable names in the octagon, including ex-WEC champion Eddie Wineland and Thomas Almeida. His only career defeat came against Marlon Vera in a fight in which he experienced a “drop foot” injury in the first round, which helped Vera geta. TKO finish.
