Sean McVay Unofficially Commits to Return as Rams Coach in 2024

The Los Angeles Rams have been one of the surprises of the 2023 season, as they are back in the playoffs after missing the postseason entirely in ’22. Entering last offseason, it was unclear whether coach Sean McVay would return to the franchise, but he chose to remain in his position and has guided the Rams back to a winning record.

Although this season isn’t over yet, there shouldn’t be much speculation regarding McVay’s job status this time around. The coach appeared on his weekly The Coach McVay Show and assured host J.B. Long that he will continue to do the show next season, which of course means he will be back with the Rams.

“That I can promise you,” McVay said.

McVay has served as the Rams’ head coach since 2017, leading Los Angeles to a 69-45 record, two NFC championships and one Super Bowl victory. McVay is tied with Chuck Knox as the the second-winningest coach in franchise history, and he is only seven wins away from passing John Robinson as the team’s winningest coach.

Los Angeles gave McVay a contract extension before the 2022 season that ties the two sides together through 2026.

The Rams (9–7) currently hold the No. 6 seed in the NFC after clinching a wild-card berth in Week 17. They can secure that seed with a win at the San Francisco 49ers (12–4) at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.

The Rams would drop to the No. 7 seed if they lose to the 49ers and the Green Bay Packers beat the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
