Sean McVay tells ESPN he’s ‘committed’ to the Rams amidst retirement rumors

The Rams are getting the band back together like Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, and The Pixies before them. But a few weeks removed from a championship in Super Bowl LVI, it appears Los Angeles will have all of its horses back in the stable. One of the most important, who appeared to have his future in doubt up until now, was head coach Sean McVay.

Only 36 years old and in the prime of his career—to say nothing of the peak of the sport—McVay was thought to be seriously contemplating stepping away from football.

A new report from ESPN states that that is no longer a concern: McVay will return to coach the defending Super Bowl champion.

McVay has been coach of the Rams since 2017. Under his leadership, L.A. has won 55 regular season games in five years along with seven playoff games, including two NFC titles and, of course, Super Bowl LVI. With homegrown players like Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald in tow, McVay’s built an impressive and perhaps even sustainable long-term program.

Oddsmakers with Tipico Sportsbook agree.

The Rams have +1200 odds to win Super Bowl LVII at this early stage of February. That would place them in a comfortable third-place pole position behind the Chiefs and Bills, who sit in a tie at +750. At the very least, with Kupp, Donald, Matthew Stafford, and Jalen Ramsey returning in addition to McVay, they will likely be a heavy NFC favorite.

McVay may soon leave the stress and demand of football coaching in the coming years. But no one in their right minds leaves a clear shot at a back-to-back title on the table.
