Sean McVay has weighed the possibility of retiring from coaching in each of the last two years, but he has no doubt about what his future holds in 2024. He’ll be back as head coach of the Los Angeles Rams next year, promising everyone he’ll return for another run in 2024.
He made that promise during his appearance on the “Coach McVay Show” on Monday when the topic of the Rams’ all-time wins record was brought up. McVay was made aware that he’s tied for the second-most regular-season wins in franchise history, something he didn’t know until Monday.
“Nice, I did not know that,” McVay said before asking how far ahead John Robinson is for the all-time record in Rams history.
So will McVay be back in 2024?
“That I can promise you,” he said.

McVay signed an extension with the Rams during the 2022 offseason, which made him the third-highest-paid coach in the NFL at the time. He’s under contract through the 2026 season, so it’s no surprise that he’s planning to return for at least one more year.
And there’s a good chance he passes Robinson for the franchise’s all-time wins record, sitting six wins back entering Week 18. McVay has 69 career wins, while Robinson had 75 with the Rams.
He’s often said he won’t be someone who coaches into his 60s and openly admits he wants to get into TV at some point, but for at least one more year, his focus is on the Rams.
As long as he’s the coach, Los Angeles will remain a contender in the NFC.
