After losing to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4, the Los Angeles Rams are hoping to get their season turned around. Head coach Sean McVay addressed the media on Tuesday following the defeat, and was clearly perturbed by his team’s performance.
Though he reiterated his faith in the members of the Rams’ roster, it was clear that he was perturbed by the team’s recent struggles, and had a sense that new direction is needed in his game plan.
“All you can do is continue to battle,” McVay said. “I believe in these players, I believe in these coaches, and I believe in people that are resilient and can respond. And every single week is a new week. I want to start seeing some improvement. Some of the challenges have been the continuity where we’ve had a lot of moving pieces on the offensive line, at the receiver position, particularly on the back end defensively, but like I said, none of which is an excuse, and nobody really cares.
“And so, we’ve got to be able to keep it moving. Want to try to be able to do what we can to try to stay healthier. Some of that is just being able to be fortunate and lucky. And then if for whatever reason we are losing guys, then we’ve got to have the next guy ready to go and able to step up in that player’s absence.”
Los Angeles has a way of bouncing back from adversity, and will need to maximize their abilities to find success later in the season. Two early losses won’t disqualify them from playoff contention in January, but to McVay’s point, they’ll need to get to a point where they are pulling in the same direction soon, before it is too late.
With a big win against the Dallas Cowboys this week, the Rams could get back on track to win the NFC West.
