The Los Angeles Rams unexpectedly placed Stetson Bennett on the non-football illness list almost two weeks ago, but Sean McVay didn’t disclose the reason for it. All McVay said was that it’s unrelated to the quarterback’s shoulder injury, but we still don’t know what’s going on with the rookie out of Georgia.
McVay provided a little bit of an update this weekend, saying Bennett is “doing really well.” He still doesn’t know when Bennett will return, but he was happy to be able to hear his voice recently.
Buy Rams Tickets“I have, yeah,” McVay said of whether he’s kept in touch with Bennett. “And he’s doing really well, which I was really encouraged to be able to hear. I’m not really sure on a timetable with anything and so that’s been the good thing. I got a chance to hear his voice and he sounds really good and that was really cool to hear.”
The Rams drafted Bennett in the fourth round this year, selecting him to be Matthew Stafford’s backup as a rookie. With Bennett out, Brett Rypien has been promoted to QB2 and has since been signed to the active roster after starting the year on the practice squad.
While we might not know what Bennett is going through, it’s obviously bigger than football, especially based on McVay’s latest comments.
