Sean McGurk has played a key role for Leeds United’s U23 side this season after signing from Wigan in the summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old has made 15 appearances and was introduced from the bench at half-time in the 3-0 win against Liverpool U23s on Monday evening.
He turned in another impressive performance in the second half and was given a rating of seven in our player ratings from the match.
It was a particularly kind gesture after the game, off the pitch, that has since stood out though with McGurk receiving plenty of praise from Leeds supporters on social media.
The Leeds midfielder walked to his car with a young fan and handed him an Adidas shoe box which presumably contained his boots from the match.
Understandably, the supporter was left speechless by the gift and embraced McGurk who looked only too happy to have been able to make the child’s evening one that he won’t be forgetting in a hurry.
The Twitter user who posted the video, @lucyjd1991, wrote in the caption: “Sean McGurk, what a class act you are. Thank you for making his night ‘the best one ever’. He is blown away by your generosity and the time you gave to him tonight.”
McGurk wasn’t the only young Leeds representative to receive praise for a kind gesture on Monday night as Charlie Cresswell also made the match extra special for another young supporter.
The young fan in question was unable to get a signature on his shirt from the Whites centre-back but a personal video will have soon cheered him up.
In the video, Cresswell said: “Charlie Cresswell here, sorry I didn’t sign your shirt tonight mate. I’ll get one of my shirts sent over to you as soon as possible. Thanks for supporting us and I look forward to seeing you at Elland Road again soon. See you later.”
The two Leeds U23s stars have joined the growing list of players at the club to have shown theirs, and the club’s, commitment to staying in touch with the local community in the last few weeks and months.
When young footballers make the news, it is often as a result of poor judgement or naivety, so stories like these involving McGurk and Cresswell are always refreshing to see.
