Sean McDonough was quick to the draw with the perfect quip about Clemson’s missed field goal against Florida State in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s big loss.
Florida State topped Clemson in overtime, 31-24, which puts Dabo Swinney’s team at 2-2 on the season. At 1:49 in the fourth quarter, Clemson kicker Jonathan Weitz had the opportunity to knock in a field goal to give the Tigers the 27-24 lead.
However, the kick missed the uprights and went sent flying to the side.
ESPN announcers McDonough and Greg McElroy provided some insight into the missed kick. McElroy said it would’ve been a Hollywood ending for Weitz to nail the field goal, as he was literally just recruited to rejoin the program after a few years at the team’s backup kicker.
Well, McDonough had the perfect response to McElroy’s idea of a Hollywood finish.
“Well, the writers are on strike,” McDonough joked in return.

Indeed, McDonough tapped into the ongoing writers’ strike to indicate that Clemson’s fourth-quarter dramatics weren’t going to make any movie magic.
Until the studios and writers can come to a fair agreement, college football teams might want to ditch the Hollywood endings and just settle for something more boring.
