Sean Maitland agrees Saracens stay after Premiership semi-final heroics

Sean Maitland will extend his Saracens career beyond the summer in a new boost to the Premiership finalists.

The Scotland wing revealed to Standard Sport last month that his Saracens future was still unresolved, but now the 34-year-old has now agreed terms to stay on at StoneX Stadium.

Maitland’s new deal is not thought to close off the chance of Saracens recruiting Anthony Watson next term.

Maitland avoided a card for an aerial collision with George Furbank in the first minute of Saturday’s Premiership semi-final with Northampton – then went on to score two tries in Saracens’ 38-15 victory.

The powerful wing will take his stint in north London to eight years next term, and will aim to do so as a Premiership champion.

Sarries will take on Sale in the club’s ninth Premiership final at Twickenham on May 27, after the Sharks edged out Leicester 21-13 in Salford on Sunday.

Long-term England team-mates Owen Farrell and George Ford will go head to head in the Twickenham showpiece, as part of a fascinating wider battle between the league’s top two performing sides.
