Edinburgh coach Sean Everitt was proud of the way his side battled back for conceding an early try against Ulster at Kingspan Stadium to claim a first win in Belfast for five years.
“We spoke about our consistency, work rate and efforts of the ball and that for me was a great example of what this team can be.”
“I’m just really happy for the boys, 7-0 down then we came back to win the game and we have made it difficult for ourselves in the last five minutes, but I think there was a bit of nerves.”
“It was very important to lead at half time especially as we had dominated the latter stages of the first half after coming back that would have given them a boost.”
“In the second half we did really well to absorb the pressure for the Ulster pack.”
“For the first 15 minutes of the second half I don’t think we got out of our half, it was a great defensive effort from the boys.”
Everitt had special praise for his front row after props Pierre Schoeman and Robin Hislop got second half tries.
“I think it was a huge effort from the forwards and a good response up against a strong front row, we know that Ulster have been in form and obviously the Scottish front row got the better of them tonight.”
“We got good ascendancy and maybe could have got rewarded more so I’m just happy with the whole squad.
The South African was disappointed with Ulster’s late try.
“We didn’t want to give them two points because of what the log positions are, we have got to look at the whole game in context.”
“We fought out there for a period of time and we haven’t won in Belfast for a while, I known we give away soft moments in the last five minutes but we’ll just the win for now.”
The win puts Edinburgh above Ulster in the URC table.
“It was a very important win in terms of the log prospective, the competition resumes now in two weeks time and we have a home and away fixture against Glasgow in the 1872 Cup, so this result will give us a lot of confidence going into those games.”
