Seahawks safety Julian Love wins NFC Defensive Player of the Week

The man of the hour is Drew Lock, who put together a 92-yard game-winning drive for the Seahawks in their upset victory over the Eagles on Monday night. However, all of Lock’s efforts would have been wasted if it wasn’t for a career-best performance from Seattle safety Julian Love.

Love had two remarkable clutch interceptions in the fourth quarter, one saving a touchdown and the other clinching the game for the Seahawks. For his efforts, Love has been named the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week.

It’s a well-deserved honor for Love, who’s flown under the radar as part of a talented but underperforming Seahawks defense this year. He now leads the team with four interceptions and has allowed an 82.2 passer rating in coverage. He’s also been relatively reliable as a tackler even as the rest of Seattle’s DBs have struggled in this deparment – Love has missed seven attempts this year (6.6%). He has also been a significant contributor on special teams.

Love has not made a Pro Bowl team yet in his career, but his case for this season is getting stronger every week. His rise has Seattle fans all the more eager to cut ties with embattled strong safety Jamal Adams, who was inactive on Monday night against the Eagles with a knee injury and was not present at the stadium.
