Seahawks named as potential destination for Pats LB Matthew Judon

There is no such thing has having too many good pass rushers in today’s NFL, and the Seattle Seahawks are no exception. The biggest weakness for the Seahawks for several years now has been their defensive front. The front cannot stop the run, and they still struggle to get a consistent pass rush going. When it is fully clicking, this team can get after any quarterback. The problem is, it is spotty at best.

Needless to say, having a little extra juice up front would be a great thing for this team. Could said juice come in the form of New England Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon?

Currently, the Patriots pass rush specialist is entering into the final year of his contract and it seems to be the last. CBS Sports reported activity on Judon’s Twitter that suggests he is not going to be the recipient of another extension. In the same article, they discussed potential landing spots for him should the rebuilding Patriots decide to trade one of their best defenders. On the top of the list was the Seattle Seahawks.

Judon spent the first five years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens. From 2018-2020, his linebackers coach was none other than current Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald. The familiarity of Macdonald’s system and the need for more pass rush help makes this an obvious connection. Plus, Seattle will get a first hand look at Judon in Week 2 when they travel to Foxboro.

Of course, the article did mention the financial constraints. The Seahawks only have around $8 million in cap space to play with. Plus, they already have considerable resources invested into their defensive line. Dre’Mont Jones is in year two of his $51.5 million dollar contract, and Leonard Williams was recently given a $64.5 million extension.

Still, if the desire is there, Seattle can play around with the cap to make this a reality, even if it is a one-year rental.
