Seahawks injury updates: DK Metcalf, Abe Lucas, Uchenna Nwosu

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Arizona Cardinals at home on Sunday by a score of 20-10. While it wasn’t even close to pretty a win is a win and this was an absolutely critical one in terms of playoff probability. Even better, the team came out of yesterday’s game relatively unscathed.

After it was over, Seattle head coach Pete Carroll gave the media updates on several key players. Here’s what he had to say about each.

The only injury we’re aware of that happened during the game was unfortunately for a key defensive piece. Outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu sat out the entire second half against Arizona after suffering a strained pec. Carroll says there’s no word yet on the severity of his injury.

If Nwosu has to go Darrell Taylor is the next man up to start opposite Boye Mafe. While Taylor was impactful as a pass rusher his run defense continues to be a liability. His edge was decidedly unset on Joshua Dobbs’ humiliating 25-yard touchdown run.

Adding another accomplished edge would go a long way towards helping this defense where it needs it most – now even more so with Nwosu ailing.

Update:

Carroll now says that Nwosu’s injury will likely require surgery, which means he’d be done for the rest of the season.

Carroll was also asked about a possible return for starting right tackle Abe Lucas, who’s been on the injured reserve list over a month now. It doesn’t sound like Lucas will be coming off IR this week. Carroll says he’d have to surprise them for that to happen.

Just an unfortunate situation here. This injury for Lucas might be worse than Carroll and the Seahawks are letting on. Hopefully Jason Peters will finally be ready to go this week, but that’s a sad state of affairs at a critical position.

WR DK Metcalf

Finally, Carroll was asked about the absence of wide receiver DK Metcalf, who missed the first game in his career. Carroll categorically rejected the idea that Metcalf was ducking, insisting that DK is hurting.

Metcalf has been playing through a rib injury since Week 2. Last week he also suffered a hip injury – while only one counted in both cases he made remarkable catches in traffic and held on despite alot of contact. Whatever else he does on the field, Metcalf has earned the benefit of the doubt as far as physical toughness is concerned.
