Stop me if you have heard this one before: the Seattle Seahawks have struggled in their intra-divisional rivalry against the Rams.
Seattle has especially struggled with the Rams under head coach Sean McVay, but the issues predate him. Even under Jeff Fisher when the Rams were winning only 7-ish games a year in St. Louis, they always seemed to steal one from the Legion of Boom.
Last year, the Seahawks managed to do something they hadn’t accomplished in nearly a decade: sweep the Rams in the regular season. It wasn’t easy, and took last second victories (without Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp or Aaron Donald on the other side) but Seattle did go 2-0. Now, they have a chance to tie the longest win streak against the Rams since the 2012-13 seasons.
Seattle ended the 2012 regular season with a 20-13 win over the Rams in late December. They managed to carry this success over to 2013 with a 14-9 win over St. Louis on Monday Night Football (thanks to a goal line stand) and a 27-9 rout in another late December game.
The 2023 regular season will pick up where we left them in 2022: a home game against the Rams in Week 1. Los Angeles is undergoing a semi-reboot of the sorts, as all their massive contracts and lack of draft capital spent in search of their Super Bowl LV win has finally come due, but make no mistake: they will be a tough out for the Seahawks once more.
