According to Tipico Sportsbook, the Seahawks are the team with the best odds (+350) to pick Liberty’s Malik Willis on Day 2 of the draft.
Willis was the consensus top quarterback prospect in this class coming into the draft. However, Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett was generally considered the most pro-ready of the bunch. The Steelers made him the only QB to be taken in the first round last night.
The thing with Willis is that he’s considered the biggest boom-or-bust prospect in the entire class – at any position. On the high end, he could turn out to be the next Russell Wilson. He might also be a turnover-prone dud like Carolina’s third-stringer P.J. Walker, who had previously dominated at a lower level of competition in the XFL.
For what it’s worth, Willis shares Wilson’s big-throw arm, quick legs and extend-the-play instincts. It would be a little odd for Seattle to go from Wilson to another QB so similar to his own skillset and style. Perhaps they really did come to appreciate what Wilson can do – they just weren’t able to convince him to stay. In any case, paying No. 3 whatever the Broncos are bound to on his next deal is probably not a great idea given his age (33).
If the Seahawks decide to pass on Willis (22), the next-best QB prospect is considered to be Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder, followed by North Carolina’s answer to Baker Mayfield in Sam Howell, then the mysterious Matt Corral from Ole Miss and Nevada’s traditional pocket passer Carson Strong.
