Seagulls at Kelvingrove Park 'have a great time' as rubbish surrounds overflowing bin

A bin at Glasgow's popular Kelvingrove Park has been pictured overflowing as temperatures in the city sore.

A resident took to social media to say that those in the park are trying to do the right thing, however, they have been met with full bins which has resulted in rubbish being dumped to the side.

The park is expected to get busier as the heatwave continues which could result in more trash being discarded on the grass.

The resident tweeted: "Glasgow City Council it would be nice if you could empty the bins in Kelvingrove Park once in a while instead of just clearing the rubbish around them.

"People are trying to do the right thing but finding the bins full. Seagulls are having a great time."

Glasgow City Council were quick to respond to the concerned local.

They stated that the bins are cleared on a regular basis, however, the incident is being looked into.

The local authority replied: "The bins in the park are regularly emptied, and we ask, if the bin is full, for people to take their rubbish home with them, or find an alternative emptier bin, but I've passed your message on to our customer care team to look into further."

Spokesman for the council said: “Our teams are in Kelvingrove Park every day to empty bins and remove litter.

“The bin in the picture was cleared shortly after the picture was posted on social media at 6.30am on Tuesday morning.

“In this case the bin wasn’t full, but litter such as pizza boxes were blocking the aperture to the bin.

“Large crowds, such as those in the park on the holiday Monday, will always generate large amounts of waste and bins can fill up quickly.

“However, people always have a responsibility to dispose of their rubbish in the right away at all times.

“If a bin is full then people should try another bin or take their rubbish home.”
