Sead Haksabanovic 'agrees' Celtic exit as departure route revealed

Out-of-favour winger Sead Haksabanovic has agreed a deal to depart Celtic, according to a report.

The Montenegrin has been a largely peripheral figure at Parkhead since joining from Rubin Kazan just over a year ago. Last week, he appeared to hint at frustation with his lack of playing time with a eye-catching social media post that left fans speculating he was heading for the exit door.

The arrival of Luis Palma on a five-year deal this week pushed Haksabanovic even further down the pecking order, having been used sparingly by manager Brendan Rodgers since his return to the dugout in June.

And now Greek football journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos reports the 23-year-old is closing in on a move to PAOK. It's said the Greek Super League side have agreed personal terms with the attacker, and are now in the process of negotiating his transfer with Celtic.

Signed by Postecoglou for around £2million in August 2022, the bulk of Haksabanovic's appearances have come from the bench, and it appears Rodgers is content to let him move on.

Meanwhile, Celtic have signed Liverpool defender Nat Phillips on-loan until January.

Injuries to Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh have forced the Premiership champions to seek emergency cover at centre-back, and they have moved to recruit the 26-year-old Englishman. It's believed the arrangement could be extended beyond the New Year if all parties are in agreement.

Phillips revealed he was instantly enthused by a switch to Parkhead, revealing he had other offers which were not nearly as appealing.

“I’m really excited," he said. "When I heard about the interest it was one that got me excited.

"There were a few other options that didn’t quite make me feel the same as this one did, so I was really keen to get it over the line and I’m delighted to be here now.

“It’s the history of the club. It’s such a huge club, the club’s aspirations, the level it competes at, the fact that they’re in the Champions League this year and the mentality of the club – they want to be winners in everything they do.”
