The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has filed a complaint with police after fans advertising a gambling website was seen on a SEA Games live broadcast.
The incident occurred during a football match on Dec 3, the first day of the men’s football tournament, when Vietnam played Laos at Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok.
A camera captured a group of female fans sitting in the grandstand and holding scarves with the name of a gambling website on them. The fans' nationality was unknown.
Thailand has strict laws against promotion of gambling.
SAT governor Kongsak Yodmanee said on Tuesday that the authority was concerned about the issue and had filed a complaint under the Computer Crime and Gambling laws on Monday.
The behaviour of the fans in question was considered to be advertising and it encouraged others to engage in illegal activity, Mr Kongsak said.
The SAT has asked investigators at the Hua Mak police station to identify and charge the individuals involved.
