Police raided the houses of activists of Popular Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Belagavi, and took seven persons into custody on September 27.
They have been charged with disrupting traffic on the national highway by holding a flash protest in Belagavi recently without permission.
The accused are Zakiulla Faiji, Abid Khan Kadoli, Salauddin Khilewale, Badruddin Patel, Samiulla Perrazade, Zaheer Gheewale and Rehan Azeez.
They have been charged with disrupting law and order. They have been asked to sign a security bond under Section 110 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), police sources said.
Deputy commissioners of Police Ravindra Gadadi and P.V. Sneha, ACPs Narayan Baramani M. Chandrappa and S.H. Kattimani led the teams that carried out the raids.
A team is looking for PFI district president Azeem Katagi.
Arrests in Hassan, Shivamogga, Bhadravati
In Hassan, police arrested Siddique Anemahal, president of the SDPI unit at Achangi village in Sakleshpur early in the morning on September 27. Sayyed Fareed, general secretary of the Hassan unit of SDPI, too was arrested.
Hassan Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar informed mediapersons that Siddique Anemahal had been arrested and produced before the executive magistrate under the preventive arrest sections of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The arrests, he said, were preventive measures to maintain peace and order.
It is said that the police arrested him on the basis of information that the SDPI would organise protests opposing the recent arrests of office-bearers of Popular Front of India (PFI).
In Shivamogga, police arrested two persons, and three others were arrested in Bhadravati. They have been produced before the executive magistrates in the respective taluks.
